Captain Creig Garrett
Hi! my name is Creig Garrett and I am excited to share the place I call home with each and every one of you!
I was born and raised here in Alaska and grew up on the Kenai Peninsula, fishing under the guidance of my dad. I have experience fishing along the gulf coast of Florida chasing all sorts of saltwater and freshwater species, but fishing in Alaska is still my favorite. I love it, and I’m sure it will be a time you won’t ever forget!
I recently moved to Austin, Texas where I’m pursuing a career in nursing. I have always enjoyed helping people through acts of service. Out of high school, I originally went to college for firefighting and EMS. I loved it and volunteered for a short time with Central Emergency Services based in Soldotna.
My last home was just two minutes from the Kenai River and it was amazing growing up so close to such an amazing River. I’ll miss Alaska during the winter while I’m attending school but I’m already looking forward to a summer filled with fishing on the Kenai River and Kasilof River.
While I’ve been fishing the Kenai River and throughout the Kenai Peninsula my entire life, 2021 was my first year working at the team at Alaska Boat Rental & Guide Service.
It was such a fantastic experience showing everyone my home, teaching them to catch salmon, and learning about their lives. The smiles everyone gets when that rod goes off is fantastic every time! The joy everyone gets when a moose wanders into camp or we see one on the river never gets old.
My absolute favorite salmon fishing is Coho (or Silver). But Sockeye, Chinooks, and even the upcoming humpys are a blast!!!
When the fishing season ends, all my friends know me for two different activities, hunting, and hiking! I really enjoy the challenge of big game hunting. And in Alaska we have plenty of big game!
My brother and I have been small game with our dad since we were kids. Snowshoe hare and grouse were fun, but I always preferred a fishing rod.
If you get the chance when you’re here, I highly recommend going for a hike on Slaughter’s Gulch Trail if you’re down for a challenging workout with amazing views.
Even before high school, the gym has also been a positive outlet for me. Over the years I have trained a few friends here and there, and seeing healthy progress in everyone is very rewarding to me.
Another thing that is very important to me is writing music. I play the guitar, mainly acoustic, and hope to perform for fun while I’m down in Austin. You might even get the chance to hear me play at the lodge sometime after a fun day of fishing.
Please let me welcome you to the Kenai Riverside Resort and I hope to see you on the river!
